Probe after two people die in hotel fire
"An investigation was launched today into the cause of a major hotel fire which left two people dead. Staff at the Moat House in Bolton, Greater Manchester, evacuated most of the 128 guests shortly after midnight as the fire took hold on the third floor, filling rooms and landings with choking smoke. But as 50 firefighters attempted to bring the fire under control it became clear: "Several people were unaccounted for,"a Greater Manchester Fire Service spokesman said.
"A team of 20 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began a search of the hotel in Higher Bridge Street. "This was made difficult by the severity of the fire," the spokesman said. A man and a woman were found in a corridor on the third floor. They were given first aid at the scene and rushed by ambulance to Bolton Royal Hospital where they were pronounced dead."
